The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), has visited his defeated contender, Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, at his residence in Ayigya, Oforikrom Municipality, as part of efforts to promote unity and reconciliation within the party.
The visit came a day after the NPP’s Ashanti Regional elections held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, where COKA defeated Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu to become the new regional chairman.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, August 16, COKA called on party members to put their differences aside and unite ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“We are hungry for power, and nobody will be left behind. Together, we will unite, rebuild, and work for victory,” he stated.
COKA also expressed gratitude to delegates, supporters, and the entire Ashanti NPP, assuring that his administration would be inclusive and make room for all contestants, including those who lost the election.
“To all the candidates, especially those who did not win, there is a place for you in my administration. Your experience, ideas, and commitment are valuable to the party,” he said.
The meeting with Dr. Kokofu follows a closely contested chairmanship race in which COKA secured 658 votes, while Dr. Kokofu polled 269 votes.
COKA said he would not take the mandate for granted and pledged to lead the party with humility, dedication, and discipline.
“I will not take this mandate for granted. Together we will work with humility, unity, dedication, and discipline to restore the NPP to power,” he stated.
His early visit to Dr. Kokofu appears aimed at drawing a line under the Ashanti Regional contest and bringing competing candidates together ahead of the NPP’s preparations for the 2028 elections.
